About the Library

Eligibility for Registration

  • Individuals residing in Toda City
  • Individuals working or employed in Toda City
  • Individuals attending schools in Toda City
  • Residents of the following areas: Warabi City, Kawaguchi City, Soka City, Saitama City, Asaka City, Wako City, or Kita Ward and Itabashi Ward in Tokyo

Borrowing Books or Library Materials for the First Time

  • A library card is required to borrow materials from the library.
  • When applying for a library card, please bring proof of eligibility, such as:Driver’s license, Health insurance card, Student ID card, Employee ID card, Residence card
  • The registration procedure is available at the circulation desk of all library facilities in Toda City.
  • Library cards are issued immediately upon registration. The card can be used at all libraries in Toda City.
  • A library card is valid for one year. Please report any changes to your name, address, or phone number promptly at the library counter.

Loan Limits and Period

  • You may borrow books, magazines, Kamishibai materials (picture story show), CDs, and DVDs from any of the libraries in Toda City.
  • Up to 30 items may be borrowed per individual, including up to 10 audiovisual materials (CDs or DVDs).
  • The loan period is 15 days.
  • Certain items, such as recently issued magazines, reference materials, and local materials, cannot be borrowed.
  • CDs and DVDs are available only at Chuo Library. However, they can be reserved and picked up at the branch libraries, the annex rooms, or the book pickup point.

Borrowing Items

  • Please present your library card along with the materials you wish to borrow at the checkout counter.
  • The self-checkout machines are available at both Chuo Library and Kami-Toda Library Branch.

Returning Items

  • Items may be returned to the library counter.
  • The book drop boxes are also available for book returns. Please refer to the following for their locations and usage instructions.

Book Drops

  • Items can also be returned using book drop boxes when the library is closed.
  • Book drop boxes labeled “Mimizuku Post” are located outside Toda-Koen Station, Toda Station, and Kita-Toda Station.
  • Items that cannot be returned through the book drop include:
    CDs and DVDs
    Books with attached CDs or DVDs
    Oversized books or Kamishibai materials
    Items borrowed through interlibrary loans from outside Toda City.

How to Search for and Reserve Items

  • Please feel free to ask library staff for assistance.
  • Items can be searched for using library catalog terminals within the library or through the library website.
  • If the materials you are looking for are not available in the library, either because they are not in collection or are currently checked out, you can fill out a reservation request and submit it at the circulation desk.
  • If you have registered a password, you may also reserve items via library catalog terminals or the library website.

Reference Services

  • At the counter on the 2nd floor of Chuo Library, Librarians are available to assist with your reference needs.
  • Reference staff respond to inquiries via phone, reference request forms, fax or postal mail.

Photocopying Services

  • Photocopying services are available at Chuo Library and Kami-Toda Library.
    There is a fee.
  • Photocopying is permitted only within the scope of the Copyright Act.
  • Some materials may not be eligible for photocopying. Please consult library staff for guidance.

Support for the Visually Impaired

  • The library provides loans of recorded materials and braille books by mail.
  • Face-to-face reading services are also available.
